We adopted the existing run-down eatery along with all its flaws, with the sole intention of infusing life back into the space it originally deserved.
The multifarious openings carved in the front façade stage the users inside as kinetic and interactive, making the space more lively, energetic and inviting to the passersby. The surface clad in blood red corrugated metal sheeting stands in stark contrast, demanding one’s attention, in an otherwise impassive surrounding.
THE BAR
Innovation runs galore as the furniture is left raw and artistic. The uncut wooden tables intermingling with padded wireframe metal chairs are key elements in the design. The bar is built from used wooden planks while the top glistens in silver metal sheeting. Galvanised iron pipes run perpendicular to the bar top, serving as supporting members for burnt pinewood shelves.
Interiors
The disintegrating paint was removed and the brick wall behind, was left exposed and pure in its innate form. We were adamant on usage of minimal paint for the rest of the interior.
Adjacent planes are reinforced purely in plaster with an explorative and unique method of application that brings subtle interesting variations, to the otherwise conventional plain plaster.
About the project
This project was the client’s foremost venture into the culinary industry, akin to the architect, forming an easy collaboration and allowing for a fresh and inventive design approach. The restaurant sets an atmosphere of a dynamic space that is explorative and creative, while symbolizing the advent of innovation by novel, young designers in India.
